ASSESSMENT OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITYLEVEL AMONG LUBLIN ACADEMIC YOUTHS

Abstract
Background. The benefits of regular physical activity include a reduced risk of numerous diseases, overweight and obesity Thirty minutes of exercise per day for adult people is proba-bly the minimum. The objective of the present study was to assess the physical activity level among Lublin academic youths. Materiał and methods. A survey was conducted among 100 students (69 women and 31 men). The questionnaire contained question concerning: respondenfs sex, body weight, generał health and physical activity level. 74% of respondents lived away from their homes, among them 55 persons lived in the studenfs dormitory. Results. The body weight for almost 50% of the subjects was inappropriate. The problem of underweight pertained primarily to female students, when overweight or obesity pertained to men. Among the polled students, almost 50% evaluated their own physical actMty level as medium, 15% as very good. However, almost 90% respondent claimed that physical actMty positive-ly influenced human health. Men (90%) morę freguently than women (80%) evaluated their generał health as good or very good. 12% of respondents, at the same time twice morę women than men felt body discomfort, as a consequence of defective lifestyle (nourishment, physical actMty). Conclusions. The physical actMty level among the students was yery Iow. The opinion that physical actMty does not positively influence the human's health was noted. Men morę frequ-ently than women declared that they had been regularly participating in physical exercises.
