ASSOCIATIONS BETWEEN MELANOCORTIN, DOPAMINE AND SEROTONIN NEUROTRANSMISSION AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Journal Title: Medicina Sportiva - Year 2012, Vol 16, Issue 1
Abstract
Regular physical exercise is beneficial for health. Despite well-known indications to maintain moderate physical activity (PA) throughout the lifetime, recommendations to stay active are disregarded by the majority of people.Brain neurotransmitter systems influence our motivation and reward. Animal and human studies suggest that dopamine, melanocortin and serotonin may be involved in the regulation of PA. Interesting information has been revealed in association studies on the genes encoding the receptors of the above neuropeptides. Unfortunately, the complexity of interactions with the environment and differences in methods to assess PA do not allow easy conclusions. The area of the molecular basis of our lifestyle is yet to be explored.

D-ASPARTIC ACID: BIOLOGICAL ROLE AND POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS AS DIETARY SUPPLEMENT IN SPORT
Aspartic acid naturally occurs as an L- or D-form. Like many other chemical, aspartic acid demonstrates a varied biological activity dependent on which enantiomer it is in a pair. L-Aspartic acid (L-Asp) belongs to endog...
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CIRCULATING OSTEOCALCIN AND INDICES OF LIPID AND CARBOHYDRATE METABOLISM IN YOUNG WOMEN WITH OVULATORY MENSTRUAL CYCLES
Introduction: There are data indicating that low plasma levels of osteocalcin are observed in obesity, type 2 diabe¬tes and/or metabolic syndrome. In addition, long-term treatment of wild-type mice with osteocalcin sign...
CHANGES IN MORPHOLOGICAL AND CYTOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF BLOOD DURING PHYSICAL EXERCISE IN WATER AT 4ºC AND 25ºC
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of a single swimming exercise till exhaustion, in water on the morphological and cytological blood parameters in laboratory rats. Methods: The experiment invol...
