AUTONOMOUS MACHINING – RECENT ADVANCES IN PROCESS PLANNING AND CONTROL
Journal Title: Journal of Machine Engineering - Year 2019, Vol 19, Issue 1
Abstract
While autonomous driving has come close to reality over the recent years, machining is still characterised by many manual tasks and prone to costly errors. In this article, an overview is given about the potential of autonomous machining and uprising technologies that support this vision. For that purpose, a definition of autonomous machine tools and the required elements is presented. Next, selected elements of an autonomous machine tool, e.g. sensory machine components and control loops, are discussed. Finally, some insights into ongoing research projects regarding the use of machine learning for process planning and control are given.

AUTOMATED ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS OF NON-CONFORMITIES WITH MACHINE LEARNING ALGORITHMS
To detect root causes of non-conforming parts - parts outside the tolerance limits - in production processes a high level of expert knowledge is necessary. This results in high costs and a low flexibility in the choice o...
IN-PROCESS MONITORING AND ANALYSIS OF DYNAMIC DISTURBANCES IN BORING AND TREPANNING ASSOCIATION (BTA) DEEP DRILLING
This paper presents an approach to monitor the dynamic disturbances of a BTA (boring and trepanning association) deep drilling system. High length to diameter ratios are the key characteristic of deep drilling processes...
DETECTION OF WEAR PARAMETERS USING EXISTING SENSORS IN THE MACHINES ENVIRONMENT TO REACH HIGHER MACHINE PRECISION
This paper presents methods to plan predictive maintenance for precision assembly tasks. One of the key aspects of this approach is handling the abnormalities during the development phase, i.e. before and during process...
COMPENSATION OF SYSTEMATIC ERRORS OF DAMAGED PROBE FOR ON-MACHINE MEASUREMENT
Spatial characteristic of triggering radius of the damaged probe for the CNC machine tools has been presented. In such case a clear distortion of the probe performance characteristic and a significant increase in probe e...
UTILISATION OF IOT AND SENSING FOR MACHINE TOOLS
Strong requirements for automation in the production processes using machine tools have been increasing due to lack of high-skilled machining engineers. Automation used to be utilised in mass production, but it is also n...
