Journal Title: Türk Dünyası Dil ve Edebiyat Dergisi - Year 2024, Vol 2, Issue 58
Abstract
In many of the world’s languages, verbs can be associated with other word types. This can be seen in the example of the verb “düşmək” in the Azerbaijani language. In the Azerbaijani language, the verb “düşmək” connects with a large number of nouns to form various phraseological units or word combinations. Although it is easy to translate such word combinations into other languages, certain difficulties arise in the translation of phraseological units. The main reason for this is that they do not have an exact equivalent in the translated language. This situation is also observed during the translation from Azerbaijani to Turkish. Although the main meanings of the verb “düşmək”/“düşmek” mostly coincide in Azerbaijani and Turkish, the meanings given by it in phraseological units are sometimes completely different. Some linguists point out that the reason for the emergence of such differences is the change in the composition of phraseological units in Turkic languages throughout the history of development. Finding equivalents in the translated language is an important condition in order to eliminate such meaning differences and inconsistencies during translation from Azerbaijani to Turkish. These equivalents can be corrected by changing, shortening or adding a word in the phraseological unit. If such equivalents do not exist, then the equivalent of the idea expressed by the phraseological unit in the original is given in the translated language. Of course, in this case, all the words in the original phraseological unit are changed in the translated language. If these subtleties are not taken into account, when the literal translation from Azerbaijani to Turkish is carried out, phraseological units containing the verb “düşmək” have incomprehensible or wrong meanings in the translated language. In our research, we will try to analyze the phraseological units in which the verb “düşmək” is used in the Azerbaijani language, to determine their meanings, to analyze the difficulties that arise during the translation of these phraseological units into Turkish, and to find ways to solve these difficulties.
