beginning of architecture at southern zagros (the regions of kohgiloye and bakhtiary)

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2012, Vol 3, Issue 12

Abstract

All archaeologists and historians believe that the main events of the Neolithic period (i.e.,the beginning of agriculture and animal domestication) originated in the Middle East regions. With the start of agriculture, humans had to build more permanent places to live. Yet, most archaeological investigations and studies about such human records in the “Fertile Crescent and more specifically in regions within Iran were not excavated, studied nor published. Therefore related data was not published and as a result, not much is known about them. However, by looking at other archaeological studies done in Iran and neighboring regions, we can gain some knowledge about the regions in Iran that were not studied. Southern Zagros regions, specially Kohgiloye and Bakhtiary zones, are regions in Iran that have not been studied however they are very similar to east and northern Fertile Crescent regions In the beginning of the Neolithic period, these areas were the first zones where humans began gathering food and hunting animals. These areas were also the site of agricultural activities and animal domestication One of the important periods during the early Neolithic is home constructions that begun with very basic and simple structures and gradually turned into more complicated architecture and engineering designs. Zagros zones, also interred to these processes, yet are active in these transformations.
