Abstract
The article is devoted to causative verbs of understanding and knowledge at different stages of development of the Belarusian language. In addition to modern Belarusian and Old Belorussian, Old Slavonic, Russian and Bulgarian lexical material is also involved. The ways of motivating verbs with the meaning “explain” and “teach” are analyzed, as well as competitive models for their conceptualization, where the semantics of light, perception, physical activity and movement are the most important.
