Abstract

Main objective of the study – identify presence in the «Weekly Mirror. Ukraine» newspaper journalistic texts on the formation of reading culture, determine the trends in the presence book subjects on the its pages. Methodology. In the research, the following methods were used: analysis, synthesis, generalization – to determine trends in the presence book subjects on the pages of this publication; content analysis – to explore the role of the media on the example of the «Weekly Mirror. Ukraine») newspaper in the formation of culture of reading of books in general and Ukrainian ones in particular. Results and conclusions. It is noted that the largest thematic groups are about the life and work of writers and poets, the issuance and presentation of new publications. A number of publications is devoted to book exhibitions, fairs, festivals, but such events are mostly mentioned in Kyiv and Lviv. The reason for the publication of an article or an interview is often the anniversary of a famous author. In conversations with famous subjects of the formation of reading culture in general and of Ukrainian books in particular the topical issues were raised. Dialog partners of the journalists were the Minister of Culture of Ukraine Yevhen Nyshchuk, the President of the Forum of Publishers in Lviv Oleksandra Koval, the director of the “Mystetskyi Arsenal” Charitable Foundation Olha Viieru, the president of the Ukrainian Publishers and Booksellers Association Oleksandr Afonin, a skilled specialist of the book (publishing) business – the director of the «Bukva» and «KS» bookstore chain Kostiantyn Klimashenko; illustrator Vladyslav Yerko; writers Mario Vargas Llosa, Andrii Kurkov, Serhii Zhadan, Liubko Deresh, Ihor Pavliuk and others. The newspaper focuses on the educated readership, it makes a substantial contribution to the formation of culture of Ukraine books reading, highlighting relevant issues on its pages. It helps to navigate in the huge number of publications, that are available today both in paper and electronic form, publishing reviews of new books. They are not always positive and enjoyable for the authors. An example of a negative opinion about a new book can be seen in the «Oksana Zabuzhko: Vacation of the Benefit Actress») (27.11.2015) article by K. Rodyk. An example of a critical judgement on the presented in a work is in the «Viktor Pelevin in Steppes of URKAine» article (about the «S.N.U.F.F.» book of «Eksmo» publishing company, written by cult Viktor Pelevin) (20.01.2012). The necessity of development of recommendations on the stimulation of the newspaper information activity in the described direction determines the prospects of further researches.
