Bio-Medical Waste Management: An Initiative towards Swacch Bharat

Abstract

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a campaign by the Government of India to keep the streets, roads and infrastructure of the country clean. The campaign was officially launched on 2nd October 2014 by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The mission is bifurcated into sub-missions as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan- Gramin and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan- Urban. It includes several ambassadors and various activities for bringing about “swacchta”. It is India’s largest ever cleanliness drive with millions of people from all parts of the country, participating in the campaign. The objectives of Swachh Bharat are to reduce or eliminate open defecation through the construction of individual, cluster and community toilets.
