Journal Title: Indian Journal of Research in Pharmacy and Biotechnology - Year 2014, Vol 2, Issue 6

Abstract

Biomedicine is a branch of medical science that applies biological and other natural-science principles to clinical practice whereas Biotechnology is the mere application of technical advances in life science to develop viable commercial products. Advances in latest biotechnology and its practical implications have indeed proven beneficial to dental field, further facilitating its diverse applications such as PRF which is useful in initiating growth in bone regeneration, nanotechnology which allows precise controlled oral analgesia and anesthesia solution containing active analgesic micron size dental nanorobots, dentine replacement therapy; Hypersensitivity cure, complete orthodontic realignment, tooth repair, tooth re-naturalization, etc. all in a single office visit. Bioceramics which help in successful implant placement by modifying their surfaces improving osteointegration. Digital advances in Radiography have reduced the exposure dose hence detrimental effects of radiation without affecting the resolution of the final image. Further in diagnostics by using Saliva as a diagnostic aid which has been proved to be very useful, less cumbersome and easy to obtain. The aim of this review is to make dentists and allied medical professionals aware about the recent advances in the field of Biomedicine and Biotechnology.
