Abstract
One of the methods of criticism which Hanafi sect developed in the frame of the hadith concept is umumu’l-belva. The Hanafi jurisprudents accept that a narration about an issue that concerns the general public cannot remain at the level of haber-i vahid. According to them, at least they should be transported at a level that they call it meshur. This study aims to chronologically examine the development of this concept in the center of Hanafî usul works and to determine the understanding of the concept of umumu’l-belva. It was alleged that Abu Hanifa did not accept umumu’lbelvâ as a method of hadith criticism, but was developed by sectists in his later period. This thesis has been defended by many researchers in the modern period. It can be said that a review of the historical development of this concept will make a small contribution to this discussion. It is seen that the Hanafi school advocated different provisions from other denominations on many issues related to islamic law because of the coming of the hadith on a subject which is umumu’l-belva. It is planned to focus on this concept as one of the reasons for the conflict between the sects. At the same time criticisms of the Hanafi school because of these views will be examined in this article.
