Burnout prevalence and influencing factors among nurses in a tertiary general hospital in Shanghai

Abstract
ObjectiveTo investigate the prevalence and influencing factors of job burnout among nurses in a tertiary general hospitalï¼ providing a reference for medical institutions to develop effective management for job burnout.Methods684 nurses were investigated with general demographic questionnaire and Maslach burnout inventory ï¼MBIï¼.ResultsAmong the three dimensions of job burnoutï¼ the scores ï¼»median ï¼25 percentileï¼ 75 percentileï¼ï¼½ of emotional exhaustion ï¼EEï¼ï¼ depersonalization ï¼DPï¼ and personal achievement ï¼PAï¼ were 25 ï¼17ï¼ 33ï¼ï¼ 5 ï¼2ï¼ 9ï¼ï¼ and 30 ï¼23ï¼ 37ï¼ï¼ respectively. Low PA was the most common problem ï¼62.6%ï¼ï¼ followed by EE ï¼43.4%ï¼ï¼ and DP ï¼24.6%ï¼. Logistic regression analysis found that ageï¼ marital statusï¼ job typeï¼ weekly working timeï¼ annual incomeï¼ self-rated health were the influencing factors of severe EE ï¼P<0.05ï¼ï¼ self-rated health was the influencing factors of severe DP ï¼P<0.05ï¼ï¼ and employment modeï¼ self-rated health were the influencing factors of severe PA ï¼P<0.05ï¼.ConclusionThe detection rate of job burnout among nurses is highï¼ especially reflected in the EE and DP. Self-rated health is the main associated factor of job burnout. It is suggested that nurses should be intervened in a multi-faceted and multi-angle manner to alleviate job burnout.
