Calculating technical parameters of siphon intakes with cooperating wells

Abstract
In this paper a method of calculating shallow groundwater intakes cooperating with a compound classic siphon is presented. The Newton-Raphson method is applied for finding a solution of the resulting system of non-linear algebraic equations. Practical application of the general method of calculating the compound system of classic siphon is presented for a hypothetic example consisting of a row of 10 wells located in a shallow phreatic aquifer. The paper shows that the computer program developed under MATLAB environment can be an efficient tool for analysis of such compound siphon water intakes.
