CALCULATING THE IONIZATION RATE INDUCED BY GCR AND SCR PROTONS IN EARTH’S ATMOSPHERE
Journal Title: Solar-Terrestrial Physics - Year 2019, Vol 5, Issue 3
Abstract
This paper explores the applied use of the RUSCOSMICS software package [http://ruscosmics.ru] designed to simulate propagation of primary cosmic ray (CR) particles through Earth’s atmosphere and collect information about characteristics of their secondary component. We report the results obtained for proton fluxes with energy distributions corresponding to the differential spectra of galactic CR (GCR) and solar CR (SCR) during ground level enhancement (GLE) events GLE65 and GLE67. We examine features of the geometry of Earth’s atmosphere, parametrization methods, and describe a primary particle generator. The typical energy spectra of electrons obtained both for GCR and for GLE65 provide information that allows us to quantitatively estimate the SCR contribution to the enhancement of secondary CR fluxes. We also present altitude dependences of ionization rate for GCR and both the GLE events for several geomagnetic cutoff rigidity values. The conclusion summarizes and discusses the prospects for future research.

IMPACT OF TYPHOON VONGFONG 2014 ON THE IONOSPHERE AND GEOMAGNETIC FIELD ACCORDING TO SWARM SATELLITE DATA: 1. WAVE DISTURBANCES OF IONOSPHERIC PLASMA
The article considers the influence of large atmospheric processes on the ionosphere by the example of tropical typhoon Vongfong 2014. We use data obtained from three SWARM satellite missions (450–500 km altitude). We di...
RECURRENT AND SPORADIC FORBUSH DECREASES DURING SOLAR CYCLES 23–24
A comparison has been made between recurrent (associated with high-speed streams from coronal holes) and sporadic (caused by interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICMEs)) Forbush decreases (FDs) in solar cycles 23 and 2...
APPEARANCE OF ACTIVE REGIONS AT THE END OF SOLAR CYCLE 24 AND AT THE BEGINNING OF CYCLE 25
The spatial-temporal picture of appearance of active regions and the relationship of their appearance with the structure and development of a large-scale magnetic field were studied during the transition from solar cycle...
MHD waves at the pre-front of interplanetary shocks on September 6 and 7, 2017
We analyze strong space weather disturbances during first ten days of September 2017, using the geomagnetic Dst index, parameters of normals to interplanetary shock fronts, direct measurements of interplanetary magnetic...
Large-scale relationships of the geomagnetic indices SYM-H and ASY-H with the north-south IMF component and the solar wind beta parameter
Using annual average values, the relationships are examined of the geomagnetic indices SYM-H, ASY-H, and Dst with solar wind parameters in 1981–2015. The data used was divided into two samples according to the sign of th...
