Cannabis availability and use

Abstract
Introduction. The paper focuses on relationship between subjective cannabis availability and prevalence of cannabis use among school youth. Method. Relevant data was provided by The European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs (ESPAD) carried out in 2003 in Poland. The goal of ESPAD was to measure the extend of substance use among youth and to identify risk factors. Results. The strong relationship was identified between two indicators of cannabis availability: perceived availability and exposure to cannabis offers on the one hand and cannabis use during last 12 months before survey on the other. The relationship was modified by gender. The logistic regression model allows to predict probability of cannabis use. The risk is the highest (73%) for a boy of third grade gymnasium who declares very easy access to cannabis and has been exposed to cannabis offers, while the lowest (1%) for a girl, who considers access to cannabis impossible and has never been exposed to cannabis offer.
