CHANGES IN THE MARKET OF TOBACCO AND TOBACCO PRODUCTS IN POLAND DURING THE YEARS 2001-2016

Abstract

Poland is the 25th largest tobacco producer in the world and 4th in the European Union and the leading tobacco producer in Europe. The domestic market of tobacco and tobacco products was subject to intense transformations. In recent years the greatest impact on the tobacco industry and tobacco market products was the integration with the European Unionn as so the Common Agricultural Policy reforms which was leading to the elimination of direct support for tobacco production and the systematic tightening up of social policies that discourage cigarette smoking. Due to high cost of production as well as labour intensity of tobacco groving, tobacco production in Europe is hardly competitive compared to developing countries with vast resources of cheap labour and favorable climatic. The processing of tobacco in Poland is leargely dependent on import of raw materials and is aimed at export of tobacco products. The aim of the article is to present changes occurring in Poland in the production of tobacco and tobacco products.<br/><br/>
