Characterisation of Leachate Material from Dam Concrete by X-Ray Diffractometer and FTIR
Journal Title: International Journal of Research in Chemistry and Environment (IJRCE) - Year 2012, Vol 2, Issue 4
Abstract
:Leaching of CaO from the concrete in contact with aggressive water is a usual problem leading to degradation of the structure. The quantity and quality of the leachate material needs to be constantly monitored for safety evaluation of such ailing structures. These leachate materials can be characterised by using powder X Ray Diffractometer, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer and gravimetric method of wet chemical analysis. During present studies qualitative as well as quantitative characterisation of leachate materials collected from the foundation gallery of one of the major dam situated in Himalayan region of India have been carried out using different instrumental techniques. The results are compared with chemical analysis by gravimetric methods. The studies clearly shows a close resemblance in the qualitative as well as quantitative characterisation done through instrumental and that obtained using gravimetric analysis.
