Charcoal production in the Bieszczady Mts. in the past and at present

Abstract

The paper contents the description of charcoal production in earth-mound kilns, a primitive technology no longer used, and modern technology of metal kilns (retorts). This method was implemented in 1980s and is in use until now. The author gives also arguments on near end of charcoal production in the mountains. He propones creation of special exhibition devoted to charcoal production in the Bieszczady Mts to preserve historical and cultural values which were contributed by this form of wood usage
