Chemical composition of water from springs and wells in the Ponidzie area

Abstract
The chemical composition of waters from springs and wells in the Ponidzie area has been established based on research carried out in 2012 and on archived data. During field work, an inventory of 18 springs and two wells was made and the chemical composition of water was determined. The hydrochemical facies of water (according to Altowski and Szwiec classification) are of the following types: HCO[sub]3[/sub]-Ca-Mg, Ca-HCO[sub]3[/sub]-SO[sub]4[/sub] and from Na-Cl to Cl-Na, with the TDS concentrations in the range of 0.5–46.8 g/dm[sup]3[/sup]. Such variable chemical composition is associated with a complicated geological structure of the Ponidzie area (a block-folded structure cut by numerous faults).
