Circumcaval ureters can present late in life: A report of two cases with review of literature
Journal Title: JOURNAL OF MEDICAL COLLEGE CHANDIGARH - Year 2015, Vol 5, Issue 2
Abstract
Circumcaval or retrocaval ureter is a rare congenital anomaly with ureter passing dorsal to inferior vena cava (IVC) and more appropriately termed as preureteral vena cava (PVC). Although, it is a congenital anomaly but the most patients do not present with symptoms until 3rd or 4th decades of life from obstruction and resulting hydronephrosis (HDN). We report two such cases, presenting after the 6th decade of life; 70 years old male and 63 years female both with right flank pain and associated hydronephrosis (HDN). The diagnosis was confirmed with retrograde ureteropyelography and both underwent successful open surgical repair of the anomaly.
