Clinical and Echocardiographic Diagnostics of Mitral Valve Prolapse Origin in Children
Journal Title: Здоров`я дитини - Year 2014, Vol 1, Issue 52
Abstract
In order to determine hemodynamic and morphometric features of mitral valve prolapse of inflammatory and non-inflammatory origin by means of dopplerechocardiography, 34 children aged 5–17 years were examined. In children with mitral valve prolapse of inflammatory orogon significantly more often we detected myocardial wall thickening and increase in myocardial mass, that testified to left ventricular hypertrophy; more often ІІ–ІІІ degree prolapse was revealed; significantly more often — ІІІ degree mitral regurgitation that led to development of chronic cardiac insufficiency. In 83.3–94.4 % of cases we detected significant or sharp increase of ultrasonic density of papillary muscles of the left ventricle, that was not specific for prolapse of non-inflammatory origin. In all children with mitral valve prolapse, the increase of ultrasonic density of anterior cusp prevailed. Anterior cusp thickening by more than 3 mm significantly more often was detected in children with mitral valve prolapse of inflammatory origin.
