Clinical apllication of selected ceramic materials
Journal Title: Prosthodontics - Year 2012, Vol 62, Issue 3
Abstract
A rapid development of materials and technologies for the fabrication of metal-free fixed dentures has been observed in the recent years. Due to this process all-ceramic restorations are highly aesthetic showing at the same time an increasing durability. Therefore, they can be used in a wide range of applications, not only for restoring anterior and premolar teeth but also those in the molar region. Patients’ awareness and aesthetic demands concerning prosthetic solutions offered to them have been rising constantly. This is a challenge for dental clinicians that provokes the need to explore the use of a variety of ceramic materials in practice. The microstructure, physical properties and methods of manufacturing selected ceramic materials, such as leucite-, lithium disilicate-, alumina– and zirconium-oxide-based ceramics are presented in this paper. Clinical indications are also described. Examples of varied applications are illustrated by clinical cases.
