Clinical profile and outcome in children suffering from AES (Acute enchephalitic syndrome) in Magadh region of Bihar

Abstract
Acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) is a term used by WHO for syndromic surveillance in the context of Japanese encephalitis (JE). Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain. Symptoms may include headache, fever, confusion, a stiff neck, and vomiting. Complications may include seizures, hallucinations, trouble speaking, memory problems, and problems with hearing. The study was planned in Department of Paediatrics in Anugrah narayan magadh medical college and hospital. The data from the 100 patients were collected and presented as below. All the patients were undergone CSF analysis, Fundus examination, Monteux test, Chest X - ray, CT Brain, MRI Brain, EEG, Virological studies. This data would be useful to paediatrician in the evaluation and management of children with suspected viral encephalitis admitted in the hospital and assist the public health authorities in acute encephalitis surveillance to formulate a policy in our region to minimize the burden of this devastating neurological disease in the high risk paediatric population through effective preventive measures.
