Clinical Relevance of MR urethrography in obliterative posterior urethral stricture and comparison with retrograde urethrography
Journal Title: Stanley Medical Journal - Year 2017, Vol 4, Issue 1
Abstract
The purpose of the study is to evaluate the clinical relevance of MR urethrography, in obliterative posterior urethral stricture and comparison with conventional retrograde urethrography (RUG). It is prospective observational non interventional study with 22 patients. RUG and RUG combined with Cystourethrography is a well established technique in delineating the urethral strictures, both anterior and posterior. These modalities are readily available and cost effective. Relaxation of the bladder neck during the procedure is a keystone in accurately evaluating the length of the stricture, could not be done to its fullest in this technique. MRU, a newer technique, though costly than the above, can be a valuable means of imaging with overcoming the pitfalls in above said modalities. However, this modality also has few drawbacks. Surgical management of obliterative urethral stricture depends on the image analysis done before hand, to select endoscopic / perineal approach, with or without graft and flap and also treatment of associated complications like fistulas, periurethral fibrosis, cavernosal repair. Statistical analysis used: Chi-square test, Mann Whitney U Wilcox on Rank Sum test Correlation coefficient methods & Multiple regression analysis and p values were found
