Abstract
The article presented the role played by the manual of Jozef Szymanski of the auxiliary sciences of history in the life of this scholar and the „Lublin school of auxiliary historical sciences”, which he created. The book grew out of the author’s extensive scientific interests, constantly developed and deepened, in accordance with the theory developed by him and contained in the manual. The article discusses the fate of the manual in the context of political situation, which greatly influenced the possibilities of publishing before 1989 and limitations in the publishing and free practice of science. The article also presented the philosophical basis of the book and the circle of inspiration in the methodological discourse.
