Coating of Seeds with Collagen Hydrolysates from Leather Waste
Journal Title: Fibres and Textiles in Eastern Europe - Year 2019, Vol 27, Issue 4
Abstract
The subject of this paper is improvement in the growth and yield of three different types of legumes and rape in drought conditions by coating seeds with hydrolysed collagen from tanning waste. In addition, the impact of various additives in the seed shell on the growth of the plant was investigated. The encapsulation process of seeds was conducted on a disc granulator. A centrally placed seed was first coated with a layer of fungicides. The next layer was collagen hydrolysate, collagen hydrolysate with latex or a solution of yellow dextrin and polyvinyl alcohol. The outer layer was a mineral additive e.g. dolomite or kaolin. After the end of the encapsulation process on the disk granulator, all of the seeds tested were sown into soils. Seeds without coating were also sown as control seeds. Seedlings were maintained for 29 days with cultivation without irrigation. The length of the seedlings was analysed for all of the seeds sown. Higher seedling growth values were obtained for seeds coated with collagen hydrolysate in comparison with control seeds (without coating). The use of collagen hydrolysate gave slightly better results than in the case of a solution of dextrin with polyvinyl alcohol.

Application of Raman Spectroscopy for Evaluation of Chemical Changes in Dibutyrylchitin Fibres
Microporous dibutyrylchitin (DBC) fibres formed by means of a dry-wet method were treated with aqueous solutions of potassium hydroxide. By applying various parameters of the alkaline treatment, fibres can be transformed...
System Design for Evenness Measurement of Raw Silk
The evenness of raw silk is one of its most valuable qualities. Seriplane inspection is a common test for raw silk evenness but is prone to human error and lacks accurate repeatability; the Uster evenness tester is anoth...
Cotton Fibre-to-Yarn Engineering: A Simulated Annealing Approach
In this paper we undertake to engineer yarn of predefined strength by choosing suitable raw material and process parameters. In an attempt to achieve a yarn of optimal strength, the constrained optimisation problem is fo...
Mechanical Behaviour of Hybrid Composites Developed from Textile Waste
The current study focused on the use of textile industry waste (cotton and jute) and glass fabric for the development of hybrid composites. Composites were fabricated using either a single reinforcement or different frac...
Synthesis of Conductive Cocoon Silk Composites
Herein we report on the preparation of polyaniline (PANI) composite using a cocoon by in situ chemical oxidative polymerisation. The composites thus prepared were characterised by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), ther...
