Colchicine related pancytopenia and polyneuropathy

Abstract

Colchine is used in the treatment of different diseases such as attacks of gout arthritis, familial Mediterannean fever, Behçet disease. As colchicine is a anti-mitotic agent, the most side effects of oral colchicine ara gastrointestinal symtoms including diarrhea, nausea, vomitting and abdominal pain. The most serious effects include myelosuppresyon, myoneuropathy and multiple organ failure which are rare. This occurs with overdose or therapeutic dosing in patients with reduced clerance of colchicine due to renal insufficiency and hepatic dysfunction.
