Abstract
The second part of the Scottish guidance “Dental clinical guidance. Prevention and management of dental caries in children” covers basic strategies for planning dental management in a child patient, eliminating odontogenic pain and preventing caries. Developing a personal preventive-therapeutic care plan becomes a very important stage in dental management. Yet, it requires not only the definition of dental preventive and therapeutic needs on the basis of a child’s clinical examination, caries risk assessment and a good attitude towards treatment from the child patient and their parents/carers which determines the opportunity of a good cooperation with a dentist, but also the evaluation of the child’s overall medical condition and taking into consideration special needs connected with general diseases and prescribed medicines.
