Comparing the efficacy of 2% diltiazem and verapamil with different concentrations in patients suffering from chronic anal fissure – A randomized double blind clinical trial from a tertiary care center

Abstract

Background: Benign anorectal disorders are common and increasing in incidence. The decreasing intake in dietary fiber over the 20th century and into the 21st has contributed to a steady rise in preventable anorectal disorders. Objectives: To evaluate the comparative efficacy of diltiazem 2% gel with verapamil 2% and 4% in patients with chronic anal fissure .Material and Methods: Random 75 patients with chronic anal fissure were selected from PGIMER, Chandigarh, India. Results: Different concentrations of verapamil had equal efficacy similar to 2% diltiazem. Conclusions: Efficacy of 2% Diltiazem was superior to all other medications in this study.
