Comparison of Calcification Specificity in Digital Mammography Using Soft-Copy Display versus Screen-Film Mammography
Journal Title: International Journal of Science and Research (IJSR) - Year 2015, Vol 4, Issue 1
Abstract
Breast cancer represents the most frequent cancer within women. The damage that cancerous tumors cause to various important organs in the body can lead to serious illness, so an early detection is important for a better treatment and recovery. The most common range of age attacked by breast cancer is between 40-50 years old and until the menopause, the breast cancer rate incidence increase decreases dramatically. Two kinds of breast imaging tests are currently used. Screening , which is performed in patients with no symptoms to detect cancer when it is still too small to be felt by a woman or her physician; and diagnostic, which is performed in women who either have a breast complaint or have had an abnormality found during screening. Screening film mammography, which is also known as conventional mammography produces view of the women breast in the shape of hard copy or film that can be examined by one radiologist at a time and may suffer a number of disadvantages. Digital mammography, on the other hand, gives the radiologist a chance for enhancement of resolution, contrast, and overcome most of the disadvantages of the screen film mammography such as micro calcifications in the breast. The aim of the thesis is “ Comparison of Calcification Specificity in Digital Mammography Using Soft-Copy Display Versus Screen-Film Mammography”.
