Computer simulated versus observed NO2 and SO2 emitted from elevated point source complex
Journal Title: International Journal of Environmental Science and Technology - Year 2007, Vol 4, Issue 2
Abstract
ISC-AERMOD dispersion model was used to predict air dispersion plumes from an diesel power plant complex. Emissions of NO2 and SO2 from stacks (5 numbers) and a waste oil incinerator were studied to evaluate the pollutant dispersion patterns and the risk of nearby population. Emission source strengths from the individual point sources were also evaluated to determine the sources of significant attribution. Results demonstrated the dispersions of pollutants were influenced by the dominant easterly wind direction with the cumulative maximum ground level concentrations of 589.86 µg/m3 (1 h TWA NO2) and 479.26 µg/m3 (1 h TWA SO2). Model performance evaluation by comparing the predicted concentrations with observed values at ten locations for the individual air pollutants using rigorous statistical procedures were found to be in good agreement. Among all the emission sources within the facility complex, SESB-Power (diesel power plant) had been singled out as a significant source of emission that contributed >85% of the total pollutants emitted.

Pb and Co removal from paint industries effluent using wood ash
The release of heavy metals into the environment is a worldwide major concern. Different studies have demonstrated that natural agents have a high removal capacity for divalent heavy metal ions. Wood ash is a natural ads...
Kinetics and thermodynamics study of lead adsorption on to activated carbons from coconut and seed hull of the palm tree
The kinetic and thermodynamic of the bath sorption of lead (Pb) on to activated carbon from Coconut (CA) and Seed hull of the Palm tree (GA) have been investigated. The effects of initial Pb concentration, contact time a...
Assessment of the physicochemical parameters and heavy metals toxicity of leachates from municipal solid waste open dumpsite
Heavy metals and physicochemical characteristics of the different sites of the municipal solid waste dumpsite at Olusosun Landfill, Lagos, Nigeria, were investigated. The dormant site of the landfill has the potential of...
Germination and growth of six plant species on contaminated soil with spent oil
Effects of contaminated soil with spent oil on germination, above ground height and biomass of six herbaceous plant species were investigated by conducting a general phytotoxicity test and growth inhibition assessment. S...
Effect of tween 80 added to the soil on the degradation of endosulfan by Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Endosulfan, a chlorinated cyclodiene insecticide is of environmental concern because of its apparent persistence and toxicity to many non target organisms. Endosulfan is hydrophobic and persists in soil for more than a y...
