Conception of Social Capital and Investigation of the Components

Abstract

The essence of conception of social capital and it’s development is discussed in the article. Using methodology of R.Putman, Narayan, Cassidy, and other scientists, components of social capital and instruments of it’s measurement are investigated. Level of reliance of Lithuanian people on various institutions and on each other is evaluated, using results of Euro barometer 63.4 (investigation of European Commission about social opinion in European Union) and Lithuanian Vilmorus investigation results. Attitudes of satisfaction of living in the state and democracy level of the citizens of EU countries are compared with those of Lithuanian citizens. According to the data of investigation fulfilled in Šiauliai city, conclusions about civil activity of the city residents are presented here.
