CONSIDERATION FOR ELECTRONS SCATTERING IN GENERALIZED LANDAUER – DATTA – LUNDSTROM MODEL

Abstract

In a tutorial article directed to serve researchers, university teachers and students, from the positions of generalized Landauer – Datta – Lundstrom (LDL) model we demonstrate that the average mean free path λ , which determines the transmission coefficient T , plays an important role in description of transport of electrons through a conductor in a diffusion regime. The basic correlation between T and λ is obtained for 1D resistor as the most simple example. A connection is established between λ and a time m τ of momentum relaxation for conductors of different dimensions. We get estimation for the averaged values for the mean free path λ from experimental measurements using the diffusion coefficient and the correlation between the mean free path and mobility is established. As an example, the experimental data for Si MOSFET in different approximations are analyzed
