Journal Title: Medycyna Ogólna i Nauki o Zdrowiu - Year 2013, Vol 19, Issue 4
Abstract
The cooperation between school nurses and Physical Education teachers constitutes one of the basic elements conditioning an efficient realization of health promotion and health education among children and teenagers. According to the new General Education curriculum, it is the Physical Education teacher who plays a major role in inculcating school health education, whereas a nurse (i.e., a community health nursing educator) should be one of his closest co-workers. The aim of the dissertation was to determine the scope of cooperation between school nurses and Physical Education teachers in the implementation of health promotion and health education after adopting the new General Education curriculum.Opinion surveys were carried out in 2011 among 95 Physical Education teachers employed in primary schools, junior high schools and comprehensive high schools in the area of Lublin and Świdnik. The obtained material was subjected to statistical analysis.Based on research it has been ascertained that, among others, Physical Education teachers very positively assess the cooperation with a school nurse (51.6%). In the opinions of 96.8% of the respondents, the above-mentioned cooperation is indispensable for the fruition of school health education. The most frequent areas of cooperation between the two professions are: pre-medical first aid (75.8%) as well as accident and injury prevention (64.2%). In real terms, systematic cooperation refers mainly classifying the pupils into Physical Education classes (74.7%), or it occurs in a situation where a teacher brings the pupils to a school nurse room (69.5%).Physical Education teachers are aware of the value and inevitability of the cooperation with a school nurse in a sphere of health promotion and health education. Unfortunately, the circumstances in which the efforts are implemented, as well as their range and frequency, do not presently have the opportunity to achieve gratifying results.Key wordsschool nurse, Physical Education teacher, health promotion, health education
