Correlation of functional and radiological outcome of management of distal end radiud fractures using a trinary surgical treatment
Journal Title: Indian Journal of Orthopaedics Surgery - Year 2018, Vol 4, Issue 2
Abstract
The approach of surgical management of distal intraarticular radial fractures is gaining popularity in the current scenario and there is no concluding evidence as to which method of surgery fares better than the other this article attempts to compare the radiological and functional outcome of trinary surgical treatment percutaneous pinning ligamentotaxis and plate and screw fixation for distal end radius intraarticular fracturesMaterials and Methods It was a prospective study involving 90 patients who presented with distal end intraarticular radius fractures each of these patients were randomly assigned to be treated by ligamentotaxis and plate and screw fixation percutaneous pinning n 30 each who were operated between January 2016 to May 2017 and their data with respect to functional and radiological outcome were collected over one yearResults In this research paper out of the 90 patients the excellent scores were in 13 patients accounting 144 good scores 478 in 43 patients and fair and the poor scores 256 and 122 functionally were seen in 23 and 11 patients respectively The Cramer s V value was not found significant the values noted are 084 A significant association between groups and Volar tilt Radial angle and Radial shortening Cramers V was found to be significant P value 00001 radiologicallyThe outcome with respect to radiology and the function was measured using werley and gartland scoring and the lidstorm scoring systemConclusion In this study the open reduction and internal fixation with plate and screws gave a restored radiological outcome compared to the ligamentotaxis and percutaneous pinning group but the functional outcome remained the same in all the three treatment groupsKeywords Distal radius Intra articular fractures Volar locking plate Percutaneous Kirshner wire fixation Ligamentotaxis

Functional and radiological outcome of unstable intertrochanteric fractures treated by proximal femoral nail and dynamic hip screw
Introduction: Unstable intertrochanteric fractures are difficult to manage and the choice of implant is critical for fracture fixation. Operative management allows early rehabilitation and offers to the patient the best...
A study on functional outcome of patients treated with interlock nailing in the forearm fracture bones
Introduction: The imperfect treatment of fractures of radius and ulna diaphyses leads to a loss of motion as well as muscle imbalance and poor hand function. Therefore, the present study was designed to evaluate the func...
Management of intertrochanteric fractures with short proximal femoral nail
Background: Intertrochanteric fracture is one of the most common fractures of the hip especially in the elderly with porotic bones, usually due to low-energy trauma like simple falls. The present study was undertaken to...
Percutaneous release of trigger finger: An easy and safe procedure
Introduction Trigger finger is caused by irritation of the flexor tendon as it slides through the fibroosseous sheath Its surgical options include open and percutaneous minimally invasive methodsAim This study is aimed a...
Clinical outcome of Giant cell tumor of bone in South Indian Population
Introduction: Inadequate knowledge still exists about Giant Cell Tumor of Bone (GCTB) incidence, treatment and prognosis and moreover, standard treatment has not been formulated till date. Hence, the objective of the pre...
