Abstract

The bibliographical summary shows that the water hammer generated in a loaded pipe was often studied, supposing that this latter is free (not buried). The external pressure practised by the ground was not taken into consideration, consequently the pipe con be freely deformed in the radial sense. In this hypothesis, the account of the water hammer doesn’t in form us abont the susceptible value that really exists in the pipes are submitted to the external charge (ground). In this work, we apply the method of characteristics to a simple ramified network of rank « 2 » divergent free and buried, in suppression. In order to show the effect of the ground on the water hammer. The reasoning is on the case of steel and P.V.C. pipes free and buried in a ground of known characteristics. a comparison was presented under curved form showing thus the variation in time of nodale charges and those at the pump exit for the two types of material in a free and buried case.
