CRISPRing or RISKing? Dangers Arising from Gene Editing with CRISPR-Cas9

Journal Title: Medicinal & Analytical Chemistry International Journal - Year 2018, Vol 2, Issue 2

Abstract

Since its first experimental demonstration in 2007, CRISPR-Cas9 (short for Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats – CRISPR-Associated protein 9) brought a revolution in biology, especially in the fields of gene editing and precision medicine. CRISPR offers several advantages, namely accuracy, flexibility, versatility and cost reduction that collectively designate it as the most popular approach for gene editing, supplanting in parallel other technologies such as TALENs and ZFNs.
