DÂNİŞNÂME-İ ‘ALÂÎ IN THE MAKÂSIDU’L-FELÂSİFE

Abstract
Avicenna (d. 428/1037), who is undoubtedly one of the most prominent figures of the Islamic philosophy, has written many works on different fields. One of his important works is Dânişnâme-i ‘alâî which is a kind of encyclopedic work that consists of Logic, Metaphysic, Fizic and Mathematic sections written in Persian Language. This work remembles summary of eş-Şifâ and deals with the views of Avicenna on Peripatetic philosophy in a brief, unsophisticated and didactic way. With these basic features Dânişnâme-i ‘alâî became a source for the opinion of el-Gazzâlî (d. 505/1111) about Peripatetic philosophy. Hence, the work of named Makâsıdu’l-felâsife of el-Gazzâlî is a summary of Dânişnâme-i ‘alâî.
