Deciphering the Galaxy Guppy phenotype.

Abstract
Animal breeding hobbyists have been useful to science because they identify and isolate color coat mutations that geneticists can in turn use in their studies of the development and differentiation of color cells. This paper discusses a very interesting color mutant, the Japanese Galaxy, tracing its creation from back to a self-educated genetics hobbyist, Hoskiki Tsutsui. The paper discusses a constituent gene previously studied by Dr. Violet Phang, the snakeskin gene (the linked body and fin genes Ssb and Sst). And it discusses a gene previously unknown to science, the Schimmelpfennig Platinum gene (Sc).Through crossing experiments, the author determines that the combination of these two genes produces an intermediate phenotype, the Medusa. Incorporating the Grass (Gr, another gene unknown to science) gene into the Medusa through a crossover produces the Galaxy phenotype. Microscope studies of the snakeskin pattern in Galaxies and snakeskins reveals some parallels with similar studies made of the Zebrafish Danio.

Correlation between chemical composition of seminal plasma and sperm motility characteristics of Prussian carp (Carassius gibelio).
The objectives of the present study were to determine the relationships between chemicals compositions of seminal plasma with sperm motility traits in Prussian carp, Carassius gibelio (Bloch, 1782). There were significan...
Effect of vitamin E and highly unsaturated fatty acids supplementation on sperm quality of goldfish (Carassius auratus)
The effects of dietary vitamin E and highly unsaturated fatty acid (HUFA) supplementation on sperm quality was studied in goldfish (Carassius auratus (Linnaeus, 1758)), for one year. Fish fed experimental diets had no si...
Feeding ecology of knout goby (Mesogobius batrachocephalus Pallas, 1814) from the Romanian Black Sea (Agigea – Eforie Nord area).
The present study investigates the variations in the feeding ecology of the knout goby (M.batrachocephalus). The index of relative importance indicated opportunistic feeding on macrobenthic fauna. The fish fed mainly on...
Effect of feeding with different dietary protein level on hematological indices of juvenile Siberian sturgeon, Acipenser baeri reared under recirculating systems conditio
Hematological indices are important parameters for the evaluation of fish physiological status. The aim of present study was to obtain a basic knowledge of the hematological response of Siberian sturgeon maintained in di...
The Romanian perspective on geothermal energy resources. The chemistry of the geothermal waters from Oradea Triassic aquifer
In 2008, the European Commission put forward a proposal for a new directive (COM (2008) 30) on renewable energies to replace the existing measures adopted in 2001. According to the proposal, each member state should incr...
