Determination of Baseline Widal titres in healthy blood donors from Dhule district
Journal Title: The Indian Practitioner - Year 2014, Vol 67, Issue 4
Abstract
Introduction: Baseline titres to enteric fever pathogens are indicative of the degree of endemicity of infection. The study was conducted for detection of baseline titres for Anti-O and Anti-H for Salmonella typhi and Anti-H for Salmonella paratyphi A & B in healthy blood donors. Methods: Widal titres were found using tube agglutination test. Results: Out of 260, 133 (51.15%) had no detectable Widal titres. 6.15% had a titre of 1:20, 1.15% had a titre of 1:40 for TO. 15.38% had a titre of 1:20, 13.46% had a titre of 1:40, 4.61% had a titre of 1:80, 1.92% had a titre of 1:160 for TH. 5% had a titre of 1:20 and 1.15% had titre of 1:40 for AH. None showed increase titre for BH. Conclusion: To reach the diagnostic titre, knowledge of baseline titre among healthy population is needed. The titre anything above the baseline titre can be taken as diagnostic titre for diagnosis of Enteric Fever.
