Developing and Using Teaching Materials in eGLE Environment
Journal Title: Romanian Journal of Human - Computer Interaction - Year 2010, Vol 3, Issue 2
Abstract
The eLearning platforms have been intensively developed in the last decade by providing performant educational services at lower costs than the classical methods. Even so, the development has been significantly limited by the extensive requirement of the eLearning applications for high processing capacity and performant resources. The Grid architecture, which substitutes the single server based architecture, provides solutions for the domains such as management and processing of huge quantities of data (e.g. satellite images, 3D simulations, etc), distributed data processing, and distributed processing over a great number of computing workstations. This paper presents the eGLE platform that supports the using of resources for data storage and distributed processing in Grid systems, and the approach through which the lessons can be developed and executed in domains such as Earth Observation, massive spatial data processing, medicine, etc. It is highlighted as well a new possibility of developing educational materials by efficient mechanisms of repurposing and adapting of teaching objects already available.

Applications on Touchscreen Mobile Devices for Visually Impaired People
Nowadays, the mobile devices are used for accomplishing a wide range of tasks and activities. Nonetheless, interacting with them represents a considerable challenge for the visually impaired people, especially in what co...
Applications for automatic transliteration between English and Romanian
Transliteration has been previously introduced for translating proper names between languages, when the two languages are incompatible at the phonetic level and they use very different alphabets. We propose an data-drive...
Visual representations of educational processes
As an editorial to this special issue, we pinpoint some ways on how visual representations of educational processes can help analyzing these processes, and in turn lead to designing of new tools informed by interdiscipli...
Evaluation of Collaborative Learning in Chats, Based on the Analysis of Repetitions and Altruism
The paper presents a system for the evaluation of the students participating to a computer supported collaborative learning session using chat in English language. To each participant was assigned a different concept to...
An Ontology-Based Competence Management Interactive System For It Companies
The paper presents an interactive information system for competence management based on ontologies for information technology companies. The advantage of using an ontology-based system is the possibility of the identific...
