Development of legislation on criminal responsibility for offenses against individual freedom of a person (19th – beginning of the 21st centuries)

Abstract
The article deals with the historical and legal analysis of the peculiarities of criminal responsibility for offenses against individual freedom of a person under the legislation that was in force on the territory of Ukrainian lands in the period from the 19th century to the moment of adoption of the current Criminal Code of Ukraine. Retrospective analysis of the relevant norms allows not only to follow their historical development and to identify a variety of legislative approaches to counteract these encroachments, but also allows to consider positive and unsuccessful legislative decisions in the process of further improvement of criminal legislation.
