Development of the economic relations between Romania and The Popular Republic of China (1950-1975)

Abstract
Romania was one of the first states that recognized the independence of the Popular Republic of China, proclaimed on the 1st October 1949. Four days later, as a result of the agreement signed by the governments of the two countries, the establishment of diplomatic relationship and reciprocal accreditation of ambassadors was decided. One of the first actions of new diplomatic mission was the establishment of the cultural, scientific and economic relationship. In a short time, economic agencies and military attaches bureau were established, as well as press agency representative. In the beginning period, the commercial delegations alternative negotiated in the two capitals half a year for finalizing the yearly agreement of commercial exchange and payments. The agreement of commercial exchange and payments signed in Beijing at 9 of January 1953, stipulates reciprocal goods delivery of a total value of 21 milions ruble of each part. The inauguration of direct seagoing line between Constanţa port and the Chinese ports from the Chinese South Sea, in 1957, respectively 1965, was significant for the development of bilateral collaboration. In the following years, the technical – scientific collaboration diversify and new issues, as petrochemical and nuclear physics are takled. Analyzing the structure and evolution of economical and commercial relationship between Romania and China, it can be noticed that despite some difficulties and drawbacks, Romanian economy was subdued to an incontestable and accelerated process of development and modernization. The 1970-1975 years was the most flourishing period of economic exchange between Romania and China.
