Development of the fundamentals of melting and casting technology of Al-Me (Cr, Ni, Mo, W, Ti) master alloys used for modification of microstructure in silumins
Journal Title: Archiwum Odlewnictwa - Year 2009, Vol 9, Issue 2
Abstract
The study presents the technological backgrounds of the process of melting and casting Al-Cr, Al-Ni, Al-Mo, Al-W and Al-Ti master alloys, used as refiners of the microstructure of cast silumins. Basing on the analysis of phase equilibrium diagrams for an Al-Me (Cr, Ni, Mo, W, Ti) system at a temperature of 900oC, the characteristic intermetallic phases of AlxMey were investigated. Due to their similarity with Al and Si in respect of both structure and lattice arrangement, these phases may act as heterogeneous nuclei and promote solution hardening during, e.g., heat treatment. Using the method of thermal analysis ATD, the temperature was plotted in function of time, and then the characteristic values of the solidification parameters of master alloys were read out from the respective curves.

Influence of Addition of Briquettes with Dust Content into the Charge of Electric Induction Furnace on Cast Iron Quality
Foundry dust from blasting and grinding of castings contain a high amount of iron, ergo it is possible its recycling in foundry process. Dust was compacted by briquetting, two kinds of briquettes were prepared (A contain...
Total productive maintenance on example of automated foundry lines
Within framework of the presented study one has performed analysis of stoppages in automatic foundry lines operation, and basing on assumptions from complex maintenance system has undertaken himself to develop a service...
Optimising the composition of natural moulding sands including thermal aspects
The paper discusses the problem of the choice of the moulding sand mixture composition in terms of the sand behaviour in contact with molten metal. Studies of high-temperature phenomena make assessment of the sand compos...
The effect of the production process of medium-carbon steel on fatigue strength
The experimental material comprised semi-finished, high grade, medium-carbon structural steel for the production of mining chains. Steel was melted in a 140 ton electric furnace and desulfurized (E). In the second analyz...
Control of rebonding sand mixing as a condition for optimisation of the sand feeding system in the casting line
In order to ensure the effective operation of the casting line, synthetic sand containing bentonite has to be fed in a precisely controlled quality and quantity. The required quantity is ensured by mixing stations outfit...
