Differential effects of LY294002 and wortmannin on neurons and vascular endothelial cells in the rat retina.
Journal Title: Pharmacological Reports - Year 2013, Vol 65, Issue 4
Abstract
Neuronal damage leads to capillary degeneration in an N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-induced retinal degeneration model; however, the mechanisms underlying this phenomenon are not fully understood. The phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt signaling pathway has been recognized as an intracellular pro-survival signaling system. Therefore, we used the PI3K inhibitors LY294002 and wortmannin to investigate the role of this pathway in neuronal and blood vessel injury in the rat retina treated with NMDA.

Polymorphism in the P-glycoprotein drug transporter MDR1 gene in renal transplant patients treated with cyclosporin A in a Polish population.
P-glycoprotein (P-gp), the product of MDR1 gene, is a protein which mediates transmembrane transport of a great number of xenobiotics including cyclosporin A used as an immunosuppressive drug in patients with allogenic k...
Regulation of endothelial prostacyclin synthesis by Protease-activated receptors: mechanisms and significance.
The cellular actions of serine proteases are mediated through activation of a novel family of four G protein-coupled receptors known as protease-activated receptors (PARs). PARs are emerging as important modulators of di...
Cytoprotective effect of amifostine in the treatment of childhood neoplastic diseases - a clinical study including the pharmacoeconomic analysis.
Amifostine is an active aminothiol, which has unique properties as a radio-and chemoprotective agent. It has been reported to prevent myelosuppresion and reduce the toxic effects of intensive cancer treatment. In the stu...
Effects of 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP) on histomorphometric parameters of the rat bones.
6-Mercaptopurine (6-MP) is an antimetabolite. The drug inhibits DNAsynthesis of cells by acting as a false analog of purines. 6-MP displays a cytostatic and immunosuppressive activity. The studies carried out so far focu...
Interleukin-13-induced activation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 6 is mediated by an activation of Janus kinase 1 in cultured human bronchial smooth muscle cells.
Background: The current study was carried out to identify the JAK molecule(s) that is involved in the IL-13-induced activation of STAT6 in cultured human bronchial smooth muscle cells (hBSMCs). Methods: Cultured hBSMCs w...
