Digital Library: Issues and Challenges

Abstract
Until a few decades back, books and physical documents played an important role in knowledge growth. The rapid change in library development is pervasive. The library has since moved to digital library from the traditional libraries. Nowadays, digital libraries are providing current and updated information to its users in a standard form. Digital library is an organized collection of information, a focus collection of digital objects, including text, video, and audio along with methods for access and retrieval and for selection, organization, and maintenance of the collection. In this paper, we discuss the definition of digital library, need, advantages and disadvantages of digital library, hardware and software requirement, limitations of digital library and benefits of digital library and the factors that will necessitate the traditional libraries to get digitized.
