Disposable Chemo-Sensing Tongue for Determination of Endosulfan and Its Application in Soil Sample
Journal Title: International Journal of Research in Chemistry and Environment (IJRCE) - Year 2012, Vol 2, Issue 4
Abstract
A new method using easy employable disposable chemo-strips is proposed for determination of endosulfan, a well known pesticide. The chemo-sensing tongue i.e. paptode is prepared by immobilization of potassium iodide and hydrochloric acid. These formed iodine which are developed dark brown color on the paper paptode. Endosulfan reacts with iodine in acidic medium and bleached the brown color of the paptode .The system thus developed formed particular pattern. Thus formed products are scanned by flatbed scanner and obtained pattern was analyzed by image processing tool of “MATLAB software”. The RGB values of color spots are studied and analyzed. The proposed method is linear in concentration range 0.03-0.52µg/ml and 0.52-5.25µg/ml. All the analytical parameters and optimum reaction conditions have been evaluated. The method is applied for analysis of soil samples. The proposed paptode acts as not only sensor but can also be used for removal of endosulfan successfully.
