Distribution and Molecular Identification of Rice White Tip Nematode Aphelenchoides besseyi in Rice Growing Areas in Bulgaria
Journal Title: Journal of BioScience and Biotechnology - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 3
Abstract
The surface sterilization of explants in chemical solutions is an important step to remove contaminants with minimal damage to plant cells. Woody and mature plants growing in the open field are known to harbor a large amount of microflora and are very difficult to sterilize. The routinely used surface sterilization procedures with the solution of Ca(OCl)2 had proven to be relatively unsuccessful with Taxus baccata and some other woody fruit and ornamental species. The objective of the present study was to propose and to verify new procedures of surface-sterilization of Ginkgo and plum shoot tip explants from old trees as well as sweet cherry embryos employing silver nitrate or chlorhexidine gluconate in different concentration and periods of exposure. According to the results obtained in the present experiments we could recommend silver nitrate and chlorhexidine gluconate as effective surface sterilization agents in disinfection procedures at the initiation of woody shoot tip and embryo culture.

Genomic changes in speciation of the family Chironomidae, Diptera
The mode of speciation adopted by a species or group of related species of animals (insects) is clearly determined to a certain extent by the architecture of their genetic system. Chromosome rearrangements, the loc...
A Contribution to the study of ground beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae) in the Western Rhodope Mts. (Bulgaria)
The available information on the diversity of the ground beetle fauna in the region of the Western Rhodope Mts. was enriched. A total of 133 species were found, including 16 endemic (12% of all) and 5 relict species. Ten...
Effect of natural bioflavonoid on in vitro ruminal microbiota activity in sheep rumen liquor
A pure bioflavonoid (rutin) was extracted from Eucalyptus globulus leaves and identified by Thin Layer Chromatography using purified flavonoids moieties as a control. The purified flavonoid was used in in vitro gas produ...
Effects of supplementation alfalfa silage with molasses, orange pulp and Lactobacillus buchneri on in vitro dry matter digestibility and gas production
This study was conducted to document the effects of supplementation alfalfa silage with molasses, orange pulp and Lactobacillus buchneri on in vitro dry matter digestibility and gas production. The treatments included: 1...
In silico sequence analysis and homology modeling of predicted beta-amylase 7-like protein in Brachypodium distachyon L.
Beta-amylase (β-amylase, EC 3.2.1.2) is an enzyme that catalyses hydrolysis of glucosidic bonds in polysaccharides. In this study, we analyzed protein sequence of predicted beta-amylase 7-like protein in Brachypodi...
