ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF NUTRITIONAL AND HEALTH STATUS OF DALIT WOMEN AGRICULTURAL LABOUR IN CUDDALORE DISTRICT, TAMIL NADU

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to study the nutritional and health status of Dalit women Agricultural Labour in Cuddalore District, Tamil Nadu. The sample of the study consists of 300 respondents, which were selected by Multistage Random Sampling Method. The major objectives of the study are:- 1. To study the nutritional status Dalit women Agricultural Labour in in the study area. 2. To identify the factors affecting the nutritional and health status of the Dalit women Agricultural Labour in the study area. The nutritional and health status of the Dalit women Agricultural Labour was mostly influenced by socio-economic and cultural factors like low education, low income status, low living standard, unsafe water facility etc. It was found that Dalit women Agricultural Labour show deficiency in consumption of food items. It was also found that dalit reproductive women suffered more due to PEM (Protein-Energy Malnutrition) in the study area. It was found that the rate of food consumption was quite low among the respondents in the study area. It was also observed that the Dalit women Agricultural Labour generally do not pay much attention to their nutritional and health problems especially during pregnancy and lactation where food and nutrient requirements are more. The nutritional and health problems Dalit women Agricultural Labour need special attention because the Dalit women Agricultural Labour have distinctive health problems. In this regard, the researcher attempted to analyze the nutritional and health status of the Dalit women Agricultural Labour from the Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu.
