ECZACIBASI HYGIENE PRODUCTS PRODUCTION AND INVENTORY PLANNING SYSTEM DESIGN

Abstract

In this study, we design a production and inventory planning system which maximizes customer service level and minimizes total production related costs for Eczacibasi Hygiene Products factory. The system will make production planning decisions in a dynamic environment and be flexible enough to handle unexpected orders while keeping inventories at reasonable levels. We propose a two-stage solution approach for this problem. In the first stage, products are assigned to production lines and weekly production quantities are determined. Outsourcing decisions are also made in this stage. Then, for every production line, weekly schedule is obtained by using sequence dependent setup times. Furthermore, considering uncertainties such as demand fluctuations and lead times, a new safety stock calculation method is implemented. In addition, a threshold level for quantity of sales is determined for each customer, in order to safely allocate some of inventory to prioritized customers. Findings are tested and compared to the current performance of the factory by numerical studies and significant improvements are observed in performance measures.
