EDUCAÇÃO POPULAR ANTES E AGORA

Abstract
Popular education before and now somehow escapes the current standard of academic articles. This paper revisits ideas, proposals, and open issues in the years of establishment of popular education in Brazil and, soon after, in Latin America, during the sixties. Each of its units is divided into a series of "memories" of the fundamentals and intricacies of popular education in its early days. The "memories" of each unit are the result of a set of questions all of which related to the present moment. The purpose of this approach is to relate the substantive issues of popular education for a little over fifty years ago to the questions that remain, dilemmas and alternatives open to theory and, especially, to different and often divergent embodiments of popular education nowadays.
